Anime Review: Chuunibyou

Suitably Bored

I’m a sucker for a good romance anime. These shows pull at my heartstrings because they tend to be cute and, at times, genuine. Also, they illustrate how you can find love in the strangest of ways, as in the case of Chuunibyou. At face value I thought Chuunibyou was a show filled with teenagers having super powers and fighting evil, but all of that happens in the imagination of some of the characters. At the heart of it all, Chuunibyou is a teen romantic comedy and a great one at that.

KonoSuba Season 2: First Impressions

I loved season 1 of KonoSuba when it came out last year. The plot never took itself seriously, the characters were funny and it was just fun to watch. It was a great parody on the Virtual Game genre made famous by Sword Art Online, amongst others. Well, season 2 is here and Kazuma and his merry band of companions are back for a new adventure, this time with Kazuma being deemed a criminal.

Is Old School Cool Again?

Suitably Bored

When one mentions the term “old school” you would usually think of music back in the day. You know; the Bee Gees, Phil Collins, Dire Straits and the list goes on. I know some people, such as myself, have an appreciation for old school music and sometimes prefer listening to it rather than the music we hear these days. Lately, however, there seems to be a resurgence of “old school” inspired music. But old school goes further than just music; films and television series from the 80s and 90s are being remade as well as video games. Yes, I know hipster culture exists, but I’m looking more at the media resurgence of old school in this post.

What is the Appeal of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure?

My first blog post for Suitably Bored, a blog I recently became a contributing writer for. Hope you enjoy it 🙂

Suitably Bored

You thought this was going to be a typical blog post, BUT IT WAS ME, DIO! (props to you if you got that joke) The Jojo series is…well, bizarre really – hell, it’s even in the name. Jojo can mean many things to different people; for some it can be seen as a parody of popular genres and tropes or as the manliest series they’ve ever seen. The series has been around since the late 80s, but to this day its influence is still being felt. It has spawned an anime series, a series of memes (cue “To Be Continued” meme) and video games just to name a few. What, then, is the appeal of Jojo and why has it been able to create such a large fan base over the years?
