My Experience With The Battlefield V BETA (PC)

So this past weekend gamers, young and old, got a chance to try out the Battlefield V BETA; a game that has already had its fair share of controversy for various reasons. I, for one, did not care about the controversy and was only focused on the gameplay aspect of it, since Battlefield 1 is one of my favourite FPS games of all time and I wondered how DICE would improve on it. So when the BETA was launched I finally had a chance to find this out for myself and the results are mostly positive.

[Guest Post] Death Note – A Deplorable Attempt at Adaptation

Death Note

Hello everyone and welcome to That Baka Blog’s first ever guest post. Today I would like to introduce you to Stephen Nagel, a filmmaker and blogger from Cape Town, South Africa. When he’s not talking about film, he’s probably off writing or shooting one. If you enjoy reading this post, please make sure to catch more of his ramblings on his blog, BTG Lifestyle, or on Twitter at @thesnagel. Without further a do, here’s Stephen’s review on the Death Note anime and Netflix film.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm Episode 1 Review – A Hella Good Time (so far)

Ahhhh Life is Strange: you were sorely missed, my friend! I remember my first time entering Arcadia Bay like it was just the other day and now returning back to it (albeit a few years before the original game) made me feel a bit nostalgic. Though there are a few new characters – and a few familiar faces here and there – it still feels like the Arcadia Bay I remember, which is a good thing. That is the main strength of Before the Storm: it feels familiar, despite it being made by a new developer.

Ghost in the Shell: A Stylish, Surprisingly Good Live-Action Adaptation

Like most of us, when we heard this film was being made, I was quite skeptical as to how this would turn out since Hollywood has a tendency to turn every adaptation they touch into shit. On top of that the film also received harsh criticism for its casting, accusing it of “whitewashing”. After hearing mixed responses I decided to go watch it myself and create my own opinions about it. I initially went into this film with low expectations and came out very impressed with what I saw. I did not go into this film with any sort of agenda, I went to watch this film with an open mind and as an anime fan.

Gamer’s Corner: Life is Strange

Have you ever had a moment where you were spoilt with choices, but couldn’t decide what you wanted? What if you had the power to rewind time and correct the mistakes of the past, only to find that it caused more harm than good and you were left second-guessing yourself afterwards? This is what Life is Strange is built upon: showing us that time is not something that can be taken lightly and that the choices we make can have serious consequences in the future.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans – First Impressions

Gundam 1

Ask any anime fan to name a Mecha anime and chances are the Gundam series will be one of those answers. For a very long time, Gundam has been synonymous with the Mecha genre. The series has expanded its popularity through video games and body kits. In all honesty, this is actually the first Gundam title that I am watching; I’ve heard about the others but never watched them. From what I’ve watched so far, I am getting a sense that this one will be more darker in tone compared to the others, which is a good thing in my opinion.

A Return to That Galaxy Far, Far Away…

This past weekend I was one of the many participants in the Star Wars Battlefront BETA (Apparently 9 million people took part in the BETA, according to EA). Star Wars has always been something special and important in my life so, naturally, I got very excited to try out the game before it released. After blasting Imperial scum and not finding the droids we were looking for, here are my initial impressions of Star Wars Battlefront.
